Iconic Clock Tower Unique Scaffolding Solution

When Masta Scaffold was engaged to provide access solutions for the iconic Wagga Wagga Clock Tower, we were tasked with a unique and exciting challenge. The brief required full access to all four faces of the tower for high-level re-pointing and decorative works, without any tie-ins to the building itself.

Built in 1901, this stunning piece of Edwardian architecture demanded not only respect but also innovation. Our client needed a complete working platform that was structurally sound, fully self-supporting, and caused zero impact to the historic structure.

A Design-Driven Approach

Our in-house design team went to work, engineering a solution that made full use of the versatility and strength of the Layher Allround system. With a foundation based on Flex Beams, we created a 360-degree working platform that was entirely freestanding. 

But we didn’t stop there.

To provide access to the high-level ledges without loading the delicate roof areas, we designed and installed a beam-supported walkway, transferring all loads through the scaffold structure instead. Using a combination of cantilever, hanging, and beam-work scaffolding techniques, we created safe, stable access while protecting the heritage-listed structure at every step.

A seamless, safe, and highly functional scaffold that allowed trades to complete their restoration work efficiently, with zero impact to the building itself.
